Susan Leonard


Susan Leonard has been a committed educator, since teaching during North Carolina’s initial days of school integration. She has taught and been an administrator at five independent schools in New York. Passionate about oceans, she received her SCUBA certification in 1977 and began underwater photography several years later. Part of 5 Earthwatch studies of coral reefs and 1 with UC Berkeley, she has swum with wild dolphins in the Bahamas and sperm whales in the Azores. Having presented several group and solo photography shows, Susan continues to study oceanography and marine geology at Hunter College. She is also a past President of the Society of Women Geographers. (Photo by Cathy Church)
