Mni Waconi - Water Is Life

This Thanksgiving we are grateful for:
• rivers that sustain us
• complex ecosystems that balance our planet
• the web of biodiversity that amazes us
Our responsibility as recipients of this bounty is protection of our watersheds. Lakota Sioux water protectors at Standing Rock say Mni Waconi, water is life. East African communities say in Swahili: Hakuna Maji, Hakuna Maisha, no water no life. We at No Water No Life honor our rivers year-round. Please join us in giving special thanks on Thanksgiving for clean freshwater resources that should be available for all.

“I’ve known rivers:
I’ve known rivers ancient as the world
And older than the flow of human
Blood in human veins.
My soul has grown deep like the river.”
— Langston Hughes (1902-1967)

“Look for where the sky is brightest along the horizon. That reflects the nearest river. Strike out for a river and you will find habitation.”
— Eudora Welty (One Writer’s Beginnings,1983)
